Reserving a Moving Truck: What are the Rental Requirements?
Choosing a moving date during non-peak times can help you secure a better deal on your rental rates. For example, you may pay less by moving on a Tuesday rather than Saturday.
Smaller trucks have a lower flat rate and mileage fees. Mileage rates vary based on a number of factors and may change, even daily (rates are lowest Sunday through Thursday). But in general, average mileage fees are between $.59 and $.99 per mile driven.
One-Way truck, trailer and/or towing rentals are for one-way moves. You pick up your equipment from a rental location near your starting point, then drop it off at a different rental location near your destination. In-Town truck, trailer and/or towing rentals are for local moves or one-time deliveries.
The 10ft truck is our smallest box truck rental available for long distance One-Way moves and local In-Town moves. The 10ft moving truck can easily fit a king sized bed, frame, loveseat, two end tables, and a four piece dining room table with spare room for boxes filled with household items.
What's the Cheapest Day of the Week to Move? The short answer to this question is that the cheapest day to move is on a weekday — Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Simply put, most moving companies offer better rates during the week because they aren't as busy then.
Our extended days/miles rental option allows you to reserve the 8' Pickup truck or cargo van up to 90 days. If you're a small business owner who needs to make use of this option more frequently, consider signing up for a corporate account to receive the lowest rates.
Each trip includes a mileage allotment with fees that are incurred if exceeded. In-town or local moves are priced based on a flat rate and mileage. You must consider both factors when choosing which size moving truck to rent. If you make many trips, your cost will be higher than limiting your move to one or two trips.
Failure to pay additional charges within 7 calendar days from completion of the rental is subject to a $30 Late Payment Fee for additional charges up to $500 or 6% of the additional charges if more than $500 is owed.
For instance, our 10′ truck can carry 2,850 pounds. Meanwhile, a 26′ truck can carry up to 12,859 pounds. The image to the right gives you a breakdown of the different size trucks that U-Haul offers and how much weight each one can haul.
If you have larger items to move, such as couches, mattresses or desks, along with your many boxes, there is plenty of room to do so. In fact, any size mattress will fit in a 10′ rental truck–even your California king!
A 15′ U-Haul truck is perfect for 1-2-bedroom house or apartment moves. Besides being 5′ longer than a 10′ truck, it is wider and taller. There is plenty of room for your furniture, appliances, boxes and fragile items.
Help determine how much a rental truck will cost. Moving experts discuss rates and costs for local and one way rental trucks for your do-it-yourself move.
